My Week with Marilyn

Michelle Williams plays the beautiful Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn. In the movie, Colin Clark, who’s anxious to make it in the movie business is given the job of third assistant for the filming of “The Prince and the Showgirl.” He’s taken by Marilyn Monroe’s beauty and her on screen persona. He soon sees Marilyn as she really is off set and in private, an insecure woman trying to be a great actress. The way she copes off set is to drink and take pills. One instantly empathizes with Colin when Marilyn charms him into falling in love with her after one afternoon they spend together, knowing the affair will be short-lived. That shows something about Marilyn’s character in the movie; she wants everyone to love her. It’s a way for her to feel validated. Even though Marilyn feels like she needs direction from her acting coach, everyone including the director soon realizes that she’s amazing to watch without even knowing it. I give this movie a 9 out of 10.
