Remember The Titans

Remember The Titans is a movie set in 1971 about a football coach Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) who comes to a school in Alexandria, Virginia to not only coach the football team but also bring players together. The movie was directed by Boaz Yakin and is based on a true story of three high schools (two white, one African-American)  that were forced to integrate not only their students but also the staff. Due to the changes that were forced to be made; coach of  T.C. Williams High School Bill Yoast (Will Paton) was told to step down as the team’s head coach. Needless to say the staff nor the players were happy about that, when Herman Boone and the new African-American players met the white players and other coaches neither liked or respected each other. This all changes when the team goes to training camp; they are forced to bunk with team members of a different race and learn about each other, when the team comes home to start school they like, trust, and respect each other and are all determined to be a winning team.  Though the players changed their views about each other their family and friends did not; the players were forced to defend their friendships to family and friends and became better people because of it. This movie explains the struggles that these players went through during that time and how they over came them and built true long-lasting friendships in the end.

The Parent Trap

Hey guys, Meera here! Talk about a blast from the past..

I grew up watching this movie, by far one of my all time favorites. The entire movie was so entertaining throughout. When the girls switched their lives all the way until they get their parents back together. Dennis Quaid, Natasha Richardson and Lindsey Lohan did an amazing job! The chemistry between Dennis and Natasha is amazing, and cute little Lindsey did a great job playing two roles. I can watch this movie over and over again! What about you guys?

Women in Black

Women in black is definitely a movie that Daniel Radcliffe’s devoted Harry Potter fans will like. It is a classic British ghost story based on Susan Hill’s book published in 1982. In this film Daniel Radcliffe plays his first adult role which I must say suits him very well. He plays a “A young lawyer [who] travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorner woman is terrorizing the locals”. — (C) CBS Films. This movie is filled with twist and turns with suspenseful thrills as the pieces of the puzzle falls into place. It has all the making of a good old-fashioned horror film: a haunted mansion, a graveyard, long dark hallways, and apparitions. The movie was constructed very well and was a pleasure to watch. I wouldn’t say that I was completely on the edge of my seat the entire time but the movie certainly had its moments.

My Week with Marilyn

Michelle Williams plays the beautiful Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn. In the movie, Colin Clark, who’s anxious to make it in the movie business is given the job of third assistant for the filming of “The Prince and the Showgirl.” He’s taken by Marilyn Monroe’s beauty and her on screen persona. He soon sees Marilyn as she really is off set and in private, an insecure woman trying to be a great actress. The way she copes off set is to drink and take pills. One instantly empathizes with Colin when Marilyn charms him into falling in love with her after one afternoon they spend together, knowing the affair will be short-lived. That shows something about Marilyn’s character in the movie; she wants everyone to love her. It’s a way for her to feel validated. Even though Marilyn feels like she needs direction from her acting coach, everyone including the director soon realizes that she’s amazing to watch without even knowing it. I give this movie a 9 out of 10.

The Prestige

The Prestige is a great thriller and mystery overall. It is one of the few movies that does a great job of keeping you on your toes from start to finish. Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman do a wonderful job feeding off one another throughout the whole movie trying to one up each other’s tricks.  The movie is filled with plot twists and great dialogue, which will keep into the plot from the start. I really don’t have anything bad to say about the movie except that the special features should have some deleted scenes! This film is one of those films that makes you want to watch it more than twice just to see what you missed the first time around, seriously every time I watch it I see something different and that is one of the marks of every great film. Seriously check it out you will not regret it.
